The College of Public Health building at the University of Iowa is the first academic building on campus to earn platinum certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the highest standard for green design.

The College of Public Health was awarded the certification in April for its ongoing effort to attain environmental sustainability.

Sustainability features in the building include reflective roofing, maximal use of natural lighting, storm drainage that uses vegetation and landscaping rather than curbs and gutters, low maintenance and zero irrigation landscape design , waste reduction and recycling practices, and more.
