Warm winter leads to fatal ice fishing accident

With Iowa’s warm winter weather, it is especially important to keep in mind the ice safety tips discussed in our most recent On the Radio segment.

Two Iowans drowned on Monday while ice fishing in a pond near Patterson. Just days before the accident, ponds in the area had suitable ice for fishing, but the warm weather quickly lowered the thickness of the ice.

According to the Des Moines Register article on the incident, ice fishing is “nearly impossible in central and southern Iowa” right now.
