UI hosts Year-End Donation Drive

In order to reduce waste, the University of Iowa will host a Year-End Donation Drive.

At the donation drive, students living in Iowa Residence Halls will have the opportunity to donate items to Goodwill. The event takes place on May 15th at Quadrangle and Mayflower, and May 16 at Burge.

The fifth annual Recycling in Style Fashion Show showcases sustainability through clothing

On April 6, Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency and Goodwill of the Heartland will host the fifth annual Recycling in Style Fashion Show.

The fashion show features used clothing that has been turned into stylish outfits by clothing designers.

The runway for the show also supports sustainability. It was made from broken pallets at Goodwill’s Cedar Rapids facility.

Iowa Goodwill stores to cease television recycling program

Starting July 1, many Iowa Goodwill stores will no longer accept donations of unwanted televisions.

Dana Engelbert of Goodwill said it’s become too costly for the company to dispose of televisions that sit around in the stores, gathering dust and taking up shelf space.

“If you can’t sell a television for $1.38, it’s pretty obvious there just isn’t the demand there for them,” Engelbert said in an interview with KCRG.

The company said it spent $150,000 disposing of unwanted televisions over the past five months.
