In 4 days, the Georgia runoff elections will determine political gridlock in the U.S. Senate, which will ultimately affect the productivity of our government when it comes to passing legislation.

If either Republican Senators David Perdue or Kelly Loeffler win against Democrat challengers Jon Ossoff or Raphael Warnock, Republicans will maintain a narrow lead in the Senate and have the leverage to block President-elect Joe Biden’s agenda, according to Reuters. If both the Democrat challengers win, the Senate will be split 50-50, allowing Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to determine the tie-breaking vote.

So far, a record of 3 million Georgians has cast their ballots in the historical Senate election. The latest polls show Ossoff leading against Perdue (48.5% to 47.6%) and Warnock leading against Loeffler (49.2% to 47.4%), according to FiveThirtyEight
