On the Radio: Genetically modified crops affect monarch butterfly populations

EPA calls on Monsanto to increase monitoring or rootworm resistance

Three months ago and Iowa State University study found that rootworms were developing a resistance to the pesticides in Monsanto’s genetically modified corn plants. Now the Environmental Protection Agency is supporting the Iowa State findings.

The EPA released a memo stating that there is evidence of resistance to the pesticides in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Nebraska. In the memo, the EPA called on Monsanto to increase the monitoring of their product. Continue reading
