Officials at the University of Iowa are working to make their campus more bicycle friendly by seeking a designation from the League of American Bicyclists.

The league stamps campuses with platinum, gold, silver or bronze designations based on their level of bicycle friendliness.

“Ultimately, it is a road map for what you need to do to improve bicycle friendliness on campus,” said Josh Smith, facilities services coordinator, noting that the application will serve as an assessment of “where we stand and what we can work toward in the future.”

The UI has also created a new campus bicycle advisory committee, which is considering the installation of bicycle repair stations along with a new website that would serve as a guide to bicycling at the university.
