After wet spring, Iowa may be headed into drought conditions

This spring was Iowa’s wettest on record. However, the recent streak of dry weather has meteorologists concerned that the state may be in for a flash drought.

Although only .01 percent of Iowa is facing drought conditions — nothing compared to 2012’s widespread drought — these conditions are expected to spread if high temperatures persist and rain continues to hold off.

The dry weather does have an upside; it may help kill off unwanted bacteria in bodies of water.
