Listen to the audio segment, or read the transcript below. This week covers a new joint project between NASA and the Iowa Flood Center.
The University of Iowa Flood Center and NASA are working together to better predict floods in Iowa.
This is the Iowa Environmental Focus.
The two organizations are carrying out a project called IFloods this summer which aims to enhance the understanding of precipitation events worldwide.
From May 1st to June 15th, researchers and students from NASA as well as the Iowa Flood Center will measure precipitation levels across northeast Iowa using scientific instruments and satellites. The instruments are being placed in eight Iowa counties in northeast Iowa.
The goal of the project is to develop an accurate system for measuring precipitation and forecasting floods in Iowa.
The Iowa Flood Center is providing regular updates about project through a NASA blog.
