Efficacy of $4.7 million study of Coralville reservoir practices called into question

With water at distressingly high levels, a Coralville Lake study proposed by the Army Corps of Engineers is under fire.

The reservoir, built in the 1950s, was designed to accumulate runoff in order to control flood situations.

The study would examine the effect of the 2008 floods on the area surrounding the lake and how reservoir practices can adapt to the altered situation.

However, funding for the study is difficult to acquire, especially with alternatives being suggested by those skeptical of the need for the study. Some critics suggest that a simple collaboration between the right parties could negate the need for such an expenditure.
