The comment period for the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy has been extended from Jan. 4 to Jan. 18th.

The Nutrient Reduction Strategy is a plan for how Iowa can reduce nutrient pollution in the state’s waterways.

This plan calls for wastewater treatment and industrial plants to make upgrades that will reduce their pollution. Additionally, the plan calls on farmers to voluntarily reduce their nutrient runoff.

Some environmental groups worried that the initial 45-day comment period was too short.
