Iowans participate in First Day Hikes

To ring in the New Year America’s State Parks organized guided First Day Hikes in all 50 states on January 1.

According to an Iowa DNR press release, 111 Iowans participated in the event, meeting at Walnut Woods, Dolliver Memorial, or Mines of Spain state parks.

In total, more than 14,000 people participated in the First Day Hikes across the nation.

Of course, hiking is not restricted to January 1st.

The hiking website Tripleblaze lists the top 35 trails in Iowa based on popularity – Big Woods Trails in Cedar Falls topped the list.
