Listen to this week’s radio segment here.  It features the work of Iowa State University economist David SwensonHis research found that gains in the solar industry could potentially hold benefits for Iowa’s economy.

How can we build our economy while keep Iowa cleaner? By looking to the sun.

This is the Iowa Environmental Focus.

Iowa has what it takes to be a leader in solar energy production. By investing in the industry we could create thousands of jobs across the state, according to research by ISU economist David Swenson.

By installing 300 megawatts of solar power, Iowa could create almost 5,000 jobs and add over $300 million to the economy, he found.

Iowa already has a small solar industry that employs people statewide, and it has the ability to grow. Plus, it sees more sunshine than New Jersey and Germany – two of the world’s leading solar markets.

Why not use the sun to power our homes and office building? After all, it’s free.
