The Iowa Stormwater Education Program has awarded the city of North Liberty for its clean urban drinking water and watershed protection efforts.

The city transformed an unsightly parcel of land into a park and nature area that connects three sidewalks using pervious concrete to promote water infiltration and prevent runoff, according to a North Liberty release.

The award also recognized plans for the the city’s Penn Meadows Rain Gardens parking project, which will begin this summer. The project will include a pervious concrete paving system, rain gardens, modified bio-retention cell, and an infiltration system.
