On the Radio: Preventing Future Flood Damage

Listen to our newest segment about the innovative research at the Iowa Flood Center.

We can’t completely stop floods, but we can work to limit their damage.

This is the Iowa Environmental Focus.

Researchers at the new Iowa Flood Center are developing technologies to help Iowans better manage their watersheds and prepare for a wetter future.

A slew of innovative projects, including the creation of low cost stream gauges, real-time river monitoring, and updated floodplain maps, have drawn national attention to this Iowa effort.

Local communities and the Flood Center are already working together to prevent future flood damage.

The center’s focus is first and foremost on helping Iowans.  And that means taking action now, before Iowa’s rivers again escape their banks the next time.
