The University of Iowa is offering a new major: environmental planning and policy.
This major is an interdisciplinary effort between the Departments of Geography, Political Science and Anthropology. It teaches students to analyze environmental issues from a social perspective.
Only a few other universities offer this field of study.
Graduates of the major will have job opportunities with companies looking to increase their sustainability.

About Michael Gallagher
I am originally from outside of Chicago, but I have spent the last five years in Iowa pursuing my education. From 2006-2010 I attended Grinnell College, where I received a B.A. in English. Currently, I am a graduate student in the University of Iowa's journalism department.
In addition to my work for CGRER, I write for the non-profit investigative reporting organization Iowa Watch. Previously, I worked as a freelance writer, primarily contributing to Hoopla (The Gazette's arts and culture publication), and I assistant coached the Grinnell College cross country and track teams for a year.
My interests include writing, running, watching the Chicago Bulls, and . . . environmental news!
From when? This fall?
Is it offered as a double degree? a specialization? a minor?
Could you source this, somehow, do you think?
Sorry for not posting more information originally. Here’s a link to the major’s webpage: http://www.uiowa.edu/~geog/epp/index.shtml. I believe the major started this fall, but that’s not entirely clear. It looks like all of the required classes are ones that were already in existence, so I don’t see why someone couldn’t start the major whenever he/she wanted to.
